FleetOwner magazine discusses how giant Tyson Foods works to cut wasted fuel and miles. Tyson runs 2600 power units in its Class 8 fleet with approximately 1000 over-the-road sleepers. Each sleeper is equipped with an auxiliary power unit (APU). The company operates 160 diesel-fired APUs and 757 electric units, 480 of which also have shorepower capability. They also have 2200 trailers and are currently testing 25 Carrier Transicold Vectors (reefers).
