“Shorepower recently assumed full control of the Shorepower Truck Electrification Project (STEP), which installed power outlets at 50 truckstops nationwide, electrifying 1,800 parking spaces in 30 states. Previously, the grant was administered by a third party (Cascade Sierra Solutions) who has since closed their doors. With the takeover and new campaign, Shorepower will now be able to provide better service, improved reliability, and increase education and outreach to drivers and fleets. Truckers now have more opportunities to plug in to run air conditioners, heaters and appliances instead of idling main engines for power. The $10 million project was funded by the U. S. Department of Energy as part of the Recovery Act (ARRA). DOE’s primary intent is to reduce the use of diesel fuel, which reduces U. S. dependence on foreign oil.

“Thanks to the new campaign, the Shorepower network will be stronger than ever, helping drivers save money and make their rest periods more comfortable, said Jeff Kim, President and CEO of Shorepower. We are launching a number of initiatives including improved reliability, better signage, dedicated parking and on-site personnel that will assist drivers.”
