“Emissions from gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles contribute significantly to air pollution, including greenhouse gases and an other potentially harmful pollutants that can trigger respiratory ailments such as asthma, according to the resolution.
“Idling for more than 10 seconds uses more fuel than turning a warm engine off and then on again, and can damage engine parts, the resolution continues.
“A first offense for idling leads to a $250 fine and $500 for a second violation, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s website.
“Adopting the new resolution also helps Verona earn points for Sustainable Jersey, a program dedicated to promoting “green” habits to benefit the environment.”
